VFW Special Individual Awards - Department of Idaho - Veterans of Foreign Wars

THESE GUIDELINES WERE ESTABLISHED AT IDAHO’S VFW MIDWINTER CONFERENCE IN JANUARY 2008

GUIDELINES FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF IDAHO MR. VFW PROGRAM
This award is to recognize an individual for his/her hard work, dedication, service in helping the Veterans of Foreign Wars during the past year.
Individuals who, in this past year, are serving as Post Commander, District Commander, or State line officer are not eligible for this award.
Mr. VFW Committee – Only past Mr. VFW winners who are attending the State Convention will sit on this committee. The committee will pick the chairperson. All past Mr. VFW winners at the convention will be on the committee. The committee chairperson working with the State Commander will announce the winner at the Convention awards banquet.
Mr. VFW Nomination package – The package should consist of a minimum of two pages. First page (cover page) should include the individual’s name, Post number, cap size (include whether or not the individual is a Life Member), a block signed by the Post Commander approving the nomination package. The remaining page or pages should be a narrative describing why the individual should be selected for this award. The individual’s NAME and POST # should NOT be used in the narrative. The committee will pick the winner based on the narrative. The narrative should include everything the individual has done during the past year, including community activities, funerals, membership drives, etc.
Nomination packages may be mailed to the Department of Idaho VFW Headquarters Attn: State ADJ prior to the State Convention or hand carried to the State Convention and given to the Mr. VFW committee. No packages will be eliminated from judging (even if the above guidelines are not followed) until the Mr. VFW committee sees them.

GUIDELINES FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF IDAHO FEMALE VETERAN OF THE YEAR AWARD
This award established at the VFW Midwinter Conference in January 2008, is to recognize a female member of Idaho’s VFW whose hard work, dedication, and service to the VFW should warrant this award. This award is not intended to separate the male and female members of the Department of Idaho VFW. A female member of the Department of Idaho VFW is also eligible for all individual state awards including the Mr. VFW award. This award has been established to recognize all of the important contributions that female members of the VFW are now making to the success of the Department of Idaho VFW.
Committee – Will be made up of all the Past State Commanders who are attending the State Convention. Hopefully in the future, when enough female VFW members attend the convention, the committee will change. The committee chairperson will be picked by the committee. This chairperson, along with the State Commander, will announce the winner at the Convention Awards Banquet.
Nomination Package – The package should consist of a minimum of two pages. First page (cover page) should include the individual’s name, Post number, cap size (whether or not a Life Member) as well as a block for the signature of the person submitting the package and a signature block of the State Commander. The remaining page or pages should be a narrative describing why the individual is deserving of this award. Narratives should include everything the individual has done to help the VFW in the past year.
Nomination packages may be mailed to the Department of Idaho VFW Headquarters Attn: ADJ, prior to the state convention or hand carried to the convention and turned over to the committee. If no nomination packages are received, the committee, based on their personal knowledge and experience may pick an individual for this award.
The award winner will receive a cap reflecting “Idaho Female Veteran of the Year 20__”. A list of the winners will be included in the Department of Idaho VFW Officers Directory beginning with the 2008-2009 issue.

GUIDELINES FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF IDAHO LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
This award established at the Department of Idaho Midwinter Conference in January 2008 is to recognize an individual for his/her many years of dedication, service and hard work in promoting the VFW in the State of Idaho. All VFW members including Past State Commanders and current Commanders are eligible for this award.
Committee – All Past State Commanders who are attending the State Convention will be members of this committee. A committee chairperson will be picked by the committee. The chairperson working with the State Commander will be responsible for announcing the winner or winners at the Convention Awards Banquet. The committee may pick more than one winner.
Nomination packages – Should include a cover page with the name of the individual being nominated, Post number, and signature block of the individual who submitted the package. The rest of the package should be a narrative of why the individual deserves this award. The committee, based on their personal knowledge of an individual’s accomplishments, may pick an award winner even if no nomination packages are received.
Nomination packages may be mailed to the Department of Idaho VFW Headquarters Attn: ADJ. prior to the State Convention or hand carried to the convention and turned over to the committee.
Award – The individual or individuals receiving this award will receive an engraved plaque from the Department of Idaho VFW. A list of the winners will be included in the VFW Officers Directory beginning with the 2008-2009 Directory.
