GUIDELINES FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF IDAHO FEMALE VETERAN OF THE YEAR AWARD
This award established at the VFW Midwinter Conference in January 2008, is to recognize a female member of Idaho’s VFW whose hard work, dedication, and service to the VFW should warrant this award. This award is not intended to separate the male and female members of the Department of Idaho VFW. A female member of the Department of Idaho VFW is also eligible for all individual state awards including the Mr. VFW award. This award has been established to recognize all of the important contributions that female members of the VFW are now making to the success of the Department of Idaho VFW.
Committee – Will be made up of all the Past State Commanders who are attending the State Convention. Hopefully in the future, when enough female VFW members attend the convention, the committee will change. The committee chairperson will be picked by the committee. This chairperson, along with the State Commander, will announce the winner at the Convention Awards Banquet.
Nomination Package – The package should consist of a minimum of two pages. First page (cover page) should include the individual’s name, Post number, cap size (whether or not a Life Member) as well as a block for the signature of the person submitting the package and a signature block of the State Commander. The remaining page or pages should be a narrative describing why the individual is deserving of this award. Narratives should include everything the individual has done to help the VFW in the past year.
Nomination packages may be mailed to the Department of Idaho VFW Headquarters Attn: ADJ, prior to the state convention or hand carried to the convention and turned over to the committee. If no nomination packages are received, the committee, based on their personal knowledge and experience may pick an individual for this award.
The award winner will receive a cap reflecting “Idaho Female Veteran of the Year 20__”. A list of the winners will be included in the Department of Idaho VFW Officers Directory beginning with the 2008-2009 issue.
